Things I've built

Paramjit's Kitchen

The website for an Indian, German and Thai restaurant in Revelstoke. Hosted on my Helsinki server, with a notice board the owner edits without calling me.

Problem

The restaurant needed a site that shows the real menu and photos, works well on a phone, and lets the owner post a closure or a special without going through me.

What I built

  • A hand-written HTML, CSS and JavaScript site: a menu with search and dietary filters, a photo gallery, night mode, WebP images and a printable menu.
  • A small notice-board editor behind Basic Auth. It checks CSRF, sends a content security policy with a nonce, is rate limited in nginx and writes an audit line for every save.
  • Hosting on my Helsinki server rather than Bangalore, because in my tests each asset reached Canadian visitors about 1.2 seconds sooner.
  • Security headers, HSTS, and cache rules where pages always revalidate and images and fonts cache for seven days.

Stack

HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, nginx, Let's Encrypt, Hetzner Cloud
